Healthy Hearts Project: Paving the Way for Stronger Hearts

At Healthwatch Enfield we are currently encouraging individuals to know their blood pressure numbers and take control of their heart health.

Project status: ongoing

In partnership with AgeUK, Edmonton Green library, One2One, the Enfield Asian Womens Association and the Oasis community hub

The challenge

Heart disease is the biggest cause of death around the world and we want to support more people in Enfield to keep track of theirs, and if it’s high, how to seek and access the right support.

What we’re doing

We are listening to people in the Enfield community by attending events and having conversations about the importance of regular health check-ups and lifestyle choices. Through our growing network of Community Connectors we are gathering invaluable data about community experiences of high blood pressure and identifying barriers to accessing regular check-ups.

Results

The impact of these blood pressure events has been significant so far. Several individuals discovered previously undiagnosed high blood pressure, which could have had severe consequences if left untreated. Through encouragement to speak to their local GP or pharmacist, we hope to have encouraged individuals to act towards improving cardiovascular health.

Recent Successes: Blood Pressure Events

The Healthy Hearts Project has successfully collaborated with local community groups and charities in a series of blood pressure events, where Healthwatch provided local residence with the opportunity to have their blood pressure readings taken. We proudly worked with AgeUK, Edmonton Green library, One2One, the Enfield Asian Womens Association and the Oasis community hub, just to name a few.

During these events, skilled volunteers were on hand to measure blood pressure levels. Additionally, they offered valuable information and advice regarding heart-healthy lifestyle choices, such as balanced diets, regular exercise, and stress reduction techniques.

Future Events: Expanding Horizons

Building on the achievements of the past, the Healthy Hearts Project is looking for Community Connectors. As a Community Connector, you will have the opportunity to engage with your community, attend events, and have conversations about the importance of regular health check-ups and lifestyle choices.

The Healthy Hearts Project has demonstrated its commitment to improving heart health awareness and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Through successful blood pressure events, individuals have received interventions, ultimately leading them on a path towards healthier hearts.
